Prompt Strategy
Craft content that wins in AI search.
The prompts you track determine the AI search scenarios you optimize for. Good prompt strategy means covering the full range of questions your buyers ask AI engines at each stage of their journey.
How to choose prompts
Track prompts that match real user questions, not internal terminology. Use these three categories as a framework:
| Category | Description | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Discovery | "What is X?" and "Best X for Y?" — users exploring a category | "Best GEO tools for SaaS companies" |
| Comparison | Direct comparisons between solutions | "Genlytic vs. [competitor] for AI visibility" |
| Problem-aware | Specific pain points looking for solutions | "How do I get my brand mentioned in ChatGPT answers?" |
Prompt clusters
Group prompts by intent cluster — a set of related questions targeting the same buyer scenario. For example, the "AI visibility tracking" cluster might include:
- "How do I track my brand in AI search?"
- "What tools track AI citations?"
- "How do I know if ChatGPT mentions my brand?"
Track 3–5 prompts per cluster to get statistically meaningful win rates.
How many prompts per plan
| Plan | Active prompts |
|---|---|
| Starter | 20 |
| Pro | 50 |
| Growth | 200 |
| Enterprise | Unlimited |
Prompt discovery
Use the Discover feature on the Prompts page to generate new prompt ideas. Each suggestion includes a rationale (why the prompt is relevant) and an intent label (discovery, comparison, problem-aware). Select the prompts that match gaps in your current coverage.
Prompt discovery is triggered manually and generates suggestions fresh each time. It is not a continuous background process.
Win Rate and prompt performance
Win Rate measures what percentage of scan results for a prompt place your brand at Tier 1. A prompt with win rate 0% means your brand has zero primary mentions for that question — a strong signal to create dedicated content or optimize existing pages.
Win Rate is calculated per prompt across all scan results:
win_rate = (tier_1_results / total_scan_results_for_prompt) × 100
Prompt A/B testing
You can test prompt variants — different phrasings of the same question — to see which triggers better brand visibility. Create two prompts with similar intent but different wording and compare their win rates after 2–4 scan cycles.
